BOTOX in Dentistry – Is BOTOX the right treatment for your TMJ pain or headaches?
Don’t let jaw pain or migraines affect your life any longer. Our dentists at Rainbow Dental Centre can treat your jaw pain and migraines related to TMD with BOTOX injections!
Botox injections can be used in the muscles of the jaw and forehead to alleviate pain related to temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) as well as migraines related to clenching. BOTOX can also be used in some cases to provide relief from grinding and clenching. At Rainbow Dental Centre in Angus, Ontario, our dentist is trained in the administration of BOTOX for TMD.
How does BOTOX work?
BOTOX in dentistry works in the same manner as it does when used for esthetic purposes. A small amount of BOTOX is injected into the muscle that will provide relief from the pain the patient is feeling, blocking the nerve that tells the muscle to contract. Often, the pain associated with TMD, migraines and clenching and grinding are because the masseter muscle is contracted and will not relax on its own.
Which symptoms will BOTOX treat?
- Pain from grinding and clenching
- Migraines related to tension in the temples and forehead
- Halt the progression of recession and erosion by relaxing the masseter muscles to reduce the force of clenching
- Limited mouth opening due to tight jaw muscles
Why choose your dentist to treat your TMD or migraines with BOTOX?
Your dentist is an expert in the anatomy of the head and neck. Your dentist knows exactly how the jaw joint and muscles should function in a pain free way.
