Looking to improve your smile and considering veneers? The dentists at Rainbow Dental Centre in Angus Ontario have you covered!
Are you unhappy with the look of your smile? Perhaps your teeth are looking worn or are shorter than they used to be. Maybe you don’t like the gap between your front teeth or the colour. Veneers, either composite or porcelain, may be the right choice for your esthetic and functional improvement!
What are veneers?
There are two types of veneers – composite, or chairside veneers, and porcelain veneers. The two options are very different in their method and cost, but both achieve a similar, beautiful result.
- Porcelain Veneers. Porcelain veneers are lab fabricated shells that are custom made to fit your teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed on teeth that have been expertly prepared by your dentist. The teeth are reduced to accommodate the very thin porcelain tile that goes over top. Your dentist helps the lab to design the veneer to address your specific esthetic or functional concerns. Porcelain veneers involve two appointments: the initial appointment where your teeth are reduced and a temporary veneer is placed over top, and then the final appointment where the lab created permanent veneer is placed. Porcelain veneers are more costly than composite veneers and, because the teeth are reduced, they are permanent. Once you choose to have porcelain veneers, you must always have them.
- Composite Veneers. Composite veneers are created by your dentist in one visit. They are placed by adding to the teeth to be treated instead of reducing the teeth first. Our dentists use a premium composite material in the shade agreed upon by the patient and the dentist in the initial consultation. Our dentists use the Bioclear/Biosmile technique to create the composite veneers. This option is generally less costly than porcelain veneers and does not require taking away tooth structure.
What esthetic concerns can veneers address?
- Worn or shortened teeth from a history of grinding or clenching
- Gaps between teeth
- Intrinsically stained teeth
- Tooth shape that is not ideal
