Less Radiation, Sharper Images
Detect oral health problems not visible with a clinical exam alone.
Rainbow Dental Centre in Angus, Ontario offers the advanced technology of digital dental x-rays during your dental exam.
Did you know that digital X-rays use up to 90 percent less radiation than film X-rays? While conventional dental X-rays are relatively safe, digital radiography is a superior option as they reduce radiation exposure time to our patients while also producing a more clear, diagnostically useful image. Here at Rainbow Dental, we are completely digital with our x-rays, including our new digital Panoramic & Cephalometric machine. Dental x-rays allow our dentists a look at the teeth and supporting structures that cannot be seen with the eye alone. X-rays can identify wisdom teeth and their eruption position, cavities and concerns such as bone loss that can’t otherwise be seen. Additionally, they can be used to plan treatment for teeth that are not straight, extensive cavities, root canal surgery, extractions and placement of implants. Dental x-rays may be prescribed due to your age, risk factors for disease and symptoms you may be experiencing.
Different types of dental x-rays include:
- Periapical x-ray which shows the entire tooth including the very tip of the root. They’re used to find problems below the gums such as position of the tooth, dental abscess and issues such as internal or external resorption.
- Bitewing x-ray shows the lower and upper back teeth and the way they align. They’re used to find problems such as tooth decay and bone loss. Bitewings are typically prescribed every one to two years depending on risk factors.
- Panoramic x-rays show a wide view of the entire lower face. Including the upper and lower jaw and jaw joints, nasal area, teeth, and sinuses. They’re used to find infections, fractures, impacted teeth, bone abnormalities and more.
- Cephalometric x-rays are for orthodontic planning. This x-ray shows a side view of the patient’s head and allows for an analysis to be done to help to plan orthodontic treatment or movement of the teeth.
Without x-rays, you might miss the early stages of tooth decay or other oral problems. Take preventative measures today! Call or visit Rainbow Dental Centre in Angus, Ontario for more information or to schedule an exam.
