Dental Crown in Angus: Restore Your Smile

Protect and Enhance Your Teeth with Dental Crowns

A dental crown, or cap, is a restoration that completely covers a tooth that requires extra support due to extensive decay, damage from a crack or fracture, or erosion or wear. At Rainbow Dental Centre, we offer high-quality, lab fabricated dental crowns to restore the strength, function, and appearance of your teeth. Our experienced dentists and our team are committed to providing you with exceptional dental care and can provide you with the natural looking dental crown your tooth needs.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are used to:

  • Restore a tooth that has been compromised by extensive decay or a history of extensive restorations
  • Protect a tooth that has undergone a root canal treatment as these teeth will become brittle and prone to fracture with time
  • Cover a cracked or chipped tooth
  • Improve the appearance of a discoloured or misshapen tooth

Types of Dental Crowns

We offer a variety of dental crowns to meet your specific needs and preferences:

  • Porcelain crowns: These crowns are highly aesthetic and closely match the appearance of your natural teeth.
  • Zirconia crowns: Typically stronger than porcelain, with a more natural looking finish, zirconia crowns have gained popularity over the last number of years as the material of choice for crowns in many cases.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns: These crowns combine the strength of metal with the beauty of porcelain.

Our dentists will recommend the best type of crown required based on factors such as the location of the tooth, current parafunctional habits of the patient and aesthetic requirements.

The Dental Crown Process

The process of having a dental crown placed typically involves two appointments:

  1. Preparation: Your dentist will prepare your tooth by creating space for the crown. A digital scan will be taken of the prepared tooth to send to the dental lab.  A temporary crown will be fabricated chairside and placed to protect the tooth while the permanent crown is being made.
  2. Crown placement: Once the permanent crown is ready in approximately two weeks, it will be fitted and permanently cemented onto your tooth.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

  • Restore the function and strength of a damaged tooth
  • Improve your smile’s appearance
  • Protect a tooth weakened by root canal treatment or fracture
  • Prevent further tooth damage
